The MKE Cosplay 5k Run/Walk is a great opportunity to get active in downtown Milwaukee with people who share, or are curious about, three particular interests: geek-culture, staying healthy, and helping others!

I’ve been reading comicbooks and running for most of my life (though not at the same time). This summer it occurred to me that I was probably not the only person who shared these interests. This November, Awesomecon is coming to the Wisconsin Center, and while it will have all the exciting things expected of conventions – retailers, announcements, guest appearances, and tons of people – one thing it wasn’t going to have was a 5k run/walk.
UPDATE: I recognize that, sadly, Awesomecon has been cancelled, BUT the Cosplay 5K is still going to happen!

So, with Awesomecon’s blessing and support, I’m putting on the first MKE Cosplay 5k Run/Walk. This is a very simple event – there’s no official timing (that’s up to you and your devices), there’s no entry fee (I don’t want to scare any new runners/walkers away), and there’s ONLY ONE RULE and ONE SINCERE REQUEST:
the RULE: You MUST be dressed up in some type of costume to participate.
the REQUEST: PLEASE be a true hero, and help us help others.
Bring a donation off the list below, and we’ll get the items delivered to Community Advocates, an organization that serves a lot of people in need.

Come as your favorite Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse character – or any other publisher’s character. Come in your own original creation – be the “5K Phantom”, “Captain Quads”, or “Master Midstrike”! Come in your best steampunk or My Little Pony outfit or Brony-wear. Maybe you’re more of a Spartan – bare those legs and come run! Put on your Star Trek: The Next Generation onesie and beam on over. You dig Japanese street-fashion? Excellent – bring it on!
The point of this run/walk is to get dressed up, have a run (or walk), share your particular affection with downtown Milwaukee on the morning of November 23, 2014 AND help some people in need.
